Singapore, Inc. Versus the Private Sector: Are Government-Linked Companies Different?

This paper analyzes government-linked companies (GLCs) in Singapore. Unlike parastatals in other countries, GLCs in Singapore are competitive and commercial, and do not have government privledges. Data analysis suggests GLCs in Singapore do not have easier access to credit. The data also shows being a GLC is positively rewarded in financial markets with a premium greater than with is predicted with Tobin's q.
