Three Essays in Governance and Banking

This paper is comprised of three essays. The first finds privatization is likely to improve bank performance; data is presented to support this claim. The second analyzes differences between domestic and foreign banks in the African continent, and presents new empirical evidence to support the claims made. Finally, the third presents a theoretical analysis of the relative costs and benefits of markets, firms and governments in situations where high powered incentives have both costs and benefits.
