This paper describes the staff-monitored program (SMP) in Afghanistan. The SMP is designed to create frameworks necessary to address economic vulnerabilities and foster international engagement. Immediate fiscal and banking vulnerabilities will be addressed. The SMP will require close engagement between IMF staff and Afghanistan.
