The Determinants of European Bank Profitability

This paper aims to review the theories of bank performance and identify the determinants of bank profitability. Special attention is placed on analyzing how internal and external determinants affected the EU banking industry from 1994 to 1998. The paper concludes that bank performance was effected both by internal management decisions, as well as the external macroeconomic climate.
